Please help with your thoughts and input on TC40D, TC33D and TC30... Thanks

We operate a horse farm with stable and large pastures. We are preparing to purchase 2 new tractors for the farm and after looking at the Orange, Green and Blue machines, have decided that Blue is our favorite color...

Questions:
Looking at:
TC40D as the larger machine with hydrostat transmission, 16LA FEL and R4 industrial tires.

TC33D or the TC30 as the smaller, more compact tractor with hydrostat transmission, 7308 FEL and R4 industrial tires.

The NH 758 Subframe 8.5'Backhoe for the TC40D

The NH 757 Subframe 7.5'Backhoe for the TC33D or the TC30

What are the best prices each of you have found on these tractors and backhoes. I'm in WA state and the prices out here appear to be quite a bit higher then what I have seen in postings here. This is a fairly large purchase and I'd like to negotiate a tough but fair deal. Not sure what to do.

Also, please help me understand what exactly is the difference between the TC33D and the TC30. Is it just fancy sheet metal and convenience features? Are the engines, gearboxes, hydraulics and machine weight/durability the same? How valuable is SS?

Thanks kindly....

Hello, I live in North Carolina and I bought my tractor from OK Tractors from Ted the owner. I have a TC33D and just love it. You can talk to him for they ship anywhere ans since you live in a different State then NC you won't pay sales tax. The only differents between the TC30 and the TC33 is that the TC30 is a TC29 on steroids, were the 33 is a completely diferent engine.
Give ted a call, he will give you the best price anywere even 3000 miles away. Go to www.oktractors.com tell Ted Kris from NC sent you.

NH sold the TC 30 for a number of years as a 16XX and then a 17XX. They revamped the line and came out with the Boomer series about 6 year ago. The main advantages with the new tractors was entrance, egress and ergodynamic location of controls.
About three years ago they brought back the TC30 as a value leader to compete which comparable tractors by JD and Kubota. The tractor was restyled but the tractor is basicly the same as the other tractors.
Here the TC 30 4x4 is 11K and another 1K for hydro. The TC 40 is about 16.5K and the TC33 is similar.

Kris, by the way, what should I expect as a great price on the TC33D with Hydro, FEL and SS? What did you end up paying?

Thanks... ....

I just got a quote from Ted in NC to compare to what I paid for my tractor. TC33D Hydro, filled industrial tires, 7308FEL. I paid $17,300 Teds # was $17,350-$17,550 depending on delivery. Supersteer is about $1,000 more. I think SS is great for mowing but,I don't like it for alot of loader work. SS decreases loader capacity because loader is mounted more foward, also 4 wheel drive is effected by SS. I know many will post disagreements to what I have just said but, I would recommend you go try both tractors and see for yourself. Make your decision on your test not just what you read here. ....

I'm curious about dr's comment about SS and 4wd. I wonder if it's a geometry or a drive issue?

I believe that some heavy construction equipment does have a differential in the front drive line to address the 4wd issue. The idea is that the front and rear tires travel different distances in a turn, same as the left and right tires do. The outer rear wheel (where most of the traction is) may quit driving in a tight turn or the front wheel start sliding. At any rate, the 4wd stops working and a differential in the drive line cures the problem.

I don't know if SS's shorter turning radius makes the problem more pronounced than with conventional steering or if there's some other issue.

Just a few notes from some New Holland publications. In the NH Boomer sales brochure it lists TC 29D gross HP=29.0 pto HP (hydro)=23.6. TC 33D gross HP=33.0 PTO HP(hydro)=26.9. Engine displacement for the TC29D=81.2, for the TC33D=91.3. In the NH TC30 sales brochure:gross HP =30 PTO HP(hydro)=24, engine displacement=91.3. However, in the New Holland TC30 Service Repair Manual#87021726 under engine specifications: Gross HP=33.0, PTO HP(hydro)=26.9, PTO HP(gear)=29.1,engine displacement=91.3. Engine model #N843.
I believe that the TC33D and the TC30 use the same engine. I have had my TC30 w/7308/R4's for about six weeks now and have put 30 hours on it and absolutely love it. It's fantastic. Winterbrook, I see that you are not too far away from my location, so I will send you an e-mail and if you would like you can come over and try out my TC30 for a day - you will be impressed with it's flawless performance, quiet engine and smooth vibration free ride. ....
